With the help of Milliron and Associates, IDLCPA is submitting a bill for interior designers the first quarter of 2007. Once the bill is introduced IDLCPA will host informational meetings across Pennsylvania to answer questions and work the grassroots effort. This bill (as submitted) will not pass without a committed effort from designers. We need all designers to get involved.
The AIA PA Chapter recently sent personal e-mail messages out to all of their members specifically stating their opposition to interior design practice:
It has been demonstrated that the work offered by the interior design industry poses no risk to public safety, and thus offers no supportable argument for state oversight.AIA PA has consistently opposed attempts to establish licensure and/or title registration of interior designers for the reasons outlined above.Potentially, public policymakers are unknowingly legislating in ways that may harm the balance of the built environment and the health, safety and welfare of their constituents. Please note that not all AIA members feel this way about interior design. We need your help gathering letters from local architects who support interior design and the regulated practice. Please have the letter sent to IDLCPA P.O. Box 44144 Pittsburgh, PA 15205.
