ASID LEGISLATIVE SYMPOSIUM
By Natalie Buches, Allied ASID, LEED AP ID+C
ASID national hosted its 2010 Bi‐Annual Legislative Symposium in October in beautiful, high altitude Broomfield, Colorado. Passionate people from all over the country joined together to
learn about Interior Design licensing, network, and ultimately “reset” from our state legislative battles. The strategic campaigning workshops included information on fundraising, communicating our message, building our coalition, speaking with legislators, and so much more. Speakers came from all over the states and from different specialties like Bruce Goff
from ASID National, Christopher Kush (Soapbox Consulting), Dr. Kenneth James (The James Leadership Group), and Jeffrey Kenny (NCIDQ Executive Director). Some of the attendees
were totally uneducated on the topic and some have been in the political business for years. The mix created an atmosphere of sharing, inspiring, learning from the past, and preparing for our future endeavors.PA HB1521 UPDATE
Sadly, we have yet to have a vote on our bill. However we are pushing forward with our legislative efforts starting with a board strategic planning meeting in December. We need to keep the momentum going to keep on educating students, professionals, opposition, and legislators. A good way to start is to get yourself educated! Questions? We can be reached via our website www.idlcpa.org. You can also find other helpful links and resources on our site.

What does the average joe think us interior designers do for a living? I asked around and here’s what I got.
“Designing of something that is inside.”- Al, Graphic Designer
“Interior designers focus mostly on decorating such as style, colors, artwork, furniture, lighting, etc. I believe other designers also work on architectural blue prints for new buildings and buildings under renovation to best place windows, doors, electrical outlets, elevators, stairways, etc.” Dave, Accountant
“Designs the layout of rooms/offices and designs the décor of the room/office. Creates a certain style or feeling of a room.” Susan, Administrative Director
“They pick curtains, right? Just kidding, they create atmospheres utilizing space, color, texture, and lighting.” – Jorge, Web Designer
“Someone who is able to design a room and produce a finished product based on flow, usefulness and aesthetics.” Tracy, Coordinator
